Opinions

Okay, I need some opinions.

I've been playing a lot of Wii lately, but never really got into the Virtual Console. Then, when Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life As A King came out on Wiiware, I had to download it.

Had.

To.

Hell, the title alone made it a worthwhile purchase. You break that sucker out in any conversation and you just sound like you know more than you do.

Also, when I was checking the description, my Wii told me how many memory blocks I'd have free after the download.

1337.

Seriously.

If you need a bigger sign than that, then there's something wrong with you.

Dipping my toes into the shopping channel has gotten me thinking about what games I should download.

River City Ransom beckons to me.

Unfortunately, Susan continues to insist that we actually feed our daughter.

Every day.

This means I do not have a lot of points to work with.

I think an appropriate term might be "excruciatingly few".

Thus, I need to be as efficient as possible with my purchases.

I was hoping that you, my loyal readers, might be able to suggest the absolute best Virtual Console games for download, so that I can maximize value for cost.

As I am able to scrape together points, I will use your suggestions to build a truly epic VC library.

Or a library consisting of River City Ransom and Zelda games.

Crap. I need more points.

Do they still pay money for blood?

If you want to wait a month or so they're releasing Earthbound and Mario RPG on the virtual console.

One thing is I would recommend checking to see what games you already have remakes of before downloading games. Like if you already have the Zelda Collection for the gamecube there's no point spending the points on them again when your money is limited.

For games released now, I recommend Act Raiser. It's kinda a like a cross between Sim City and Zelda. You go back and forth between a side-scroller where you play as a god's avatar and slash everything that moves and some things that don't, and a part where you play as an angel who builds towns and shoot arrows. The towns don't take up to much time, but if you spend more time on them you level up and the townspeople will give you items that increase your max MP and teach you new spells.

Samurai Showdown (a Neo-Geo title) was released on the VC this week, in fact. As soon as I can cobble together some Wii points, I'll be snaggin' puppy. I've been waiting for that one to drop as soon as I started seeing Neo-Geo games on the VC.

Here's Nintendo's vid for the title:

Is Mario RPG really coming to VC?

If so, thats a great game and I would recommend it.

Earthbound is also a great game. (I still have it for SNES and it works)

RPG wise look for a bunch of SNES games that will come out (Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Earthbound, Secret of Mana/Evermore)

I would suggest Sword of Mana and Star Fox (SNES version.) if they have them. Amazing games.

Super Metroid. Awesome, in one of it's purest forms.

I'd also hold out for Earthbound.

My opinion: Gradually save money, instead of buying points, for a console that isn't nothing but 1990's remakes.

That's what you get for asking my opinion when Nintendo are involved.

If you like on-rail shooters, I'd say go for Sin & Punishment. It's a great title that has not been released outside of Japan before the Virtual Console came along, and it's hard as hell too.

For an impression:

(This should really had an edit option for posts)

I don't own a Wii (Financial crisis, I'm sure you can forgive this). So I had to look up which games they had for download on the internet.

I only saw five that I would download (besides the Zelda's):

~ Kid Icarus
~ Star Fox
~ Star Fox 64
~ Star Tropics
~ Super Metroid

I'm sure you have played most of these if not all, but still worth a shot to see if I reminded you of a game.

And no, you can't sell your blood, but you can sell your plasma for about $50 a week.

Kid Icarus and Gunstar Heroes are personal favorites of mine. Mario RPG and Paper Mario are good RPGs, and either of the Star Fox games available would be a good choices as well.

I think I saw Breath of Fire 2 on there somewhere. The whole series is full of win, but BoF2 is on many people's lists as the best in the series (my personal favorite is BoF3, but BoF2 is only behind it by a slight margin).

And is Earthbound really coming to VC? Excellent. Now all they need is Chrono Trigger and people will never make fun of the Wii again.

Dave, you do know there's an black-market adoption underground? You could get good money for the kid and there's your game fund.

Super Metroid

ActRaiser

if we're really narrowing it down, get and play these two.

Keep in mind that for some games you need a GameCube/Classic controller to play certain games.

Publish your friend code and wait for people to send you games as gifts.

... or just send it to me because I have more points than I know what to do with.

Startropics and River City Ransom!

In my opinion you shouldn't BUY any of them. They are free on the internet, though a bit less legal. a great Snes emulator is Zsnes, there are others but they are not as good. sure its technically illegal, but so is burning a CD for your buddies. Virtual console is just Nintendo's way of renewing there copyrights on these old games that everyone still wants to play.

What The Hell.....

Where is the Dave that we have all
come to know and fear! The Dave that is currently posting actually appears to have a heart of sorts, and that is just entirely wrong.

Dave return before you are reduced to food for your own dragon when it senses your new weakness.

That happens when you have a kid.

Perhaps having a spawn is changing dave more than he even knew...

The answer is simple.

1. Make gil
2. Sell gil
3. Feed buyer to dragon
4. ???
5. PROFIT!

Come on, two birds with one dragon.

yeah, because it's totally not the case that under current US copyright law copyrights don't expire until 75 years AFTER the copyright owner dies

oh, wait a minute...
