Ouch

Apparently, some people didn't find yesterday's post that funny. Not a lot of people mind you, but a few people made very good points about the article.

Looking back at it, I can kind of see where they're coming from. Perhaps I may have been a little insensitive.

Okay... I was really insensitive.

I was the exact opposite of sensitive.

In my defense, I've never claimed to be a sensitive person. My sense of humor tends to be very dark and morose.

Perhaps it has something to do with the swirling, black vortex of hate where my heart is supposed to be.

Still, I try not to be offensive to anyone who doesn't really deserve it.

This guy probably didn't.

Since the people who commented on it made clear and rational points, I'm going to take them as constructive criticism and avoid stories of this nature.

This stuff is supposed to make people laugh, not encourage them to sharpen pointy things and chase me through town.

It's cool if I still make fun of retarded people, right?

That guy in the movie theater who leaves his phone on despite the ELEVEN THOUSAND warnings about it...

He's still open game, right?

Right?

This is what happens when I have a boring day at work. Nobody bothers me, so I have nothing to write about.

That's when the dark side of [GM]Dave comes out.

I want you to think about that for a second... My DARK side.

Cause the rest of me is just so happy-go-lucky.

I like your dark side, it may be cruel, but it's not suppose to be taken seriously. It's just people who can't have a laugh that are picking at things.

I like the dark side tootoo! I thought the post was funny. Sad situation, but still funny.

Which is why I memed you Dave! Check it out over on my blog if you want. Or don't. :-)

[GM]Dave, if you actually developed some sensitivity, well then you entire sense of humor would change, which would affect the interest level of yo0ur readers, which would cause them to go away, which would make you go back to being dark and morose. its a vicious cycle man, and you have to walk the line, and as far as I'm concerned its all been awesome

RETURN TO THE DARK SIDE!

At 8:46 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now now, Dark and Morose would be saying...

Things to do today:
1) Kill Myself

Things to do tomorrow:
1) Break up with Boyfriend (if he survived)
2) Kill Myself

That would have been Morose and unsensitive

JJ that's like the blond joke about the husband who comes home one day and sees his wife sitting in the car holding a gun to her head. he goes and begs her not to do it and she tells him to shut up because he is next.

I think some people over-reacted... Sure, the story makes fun of a guy dying because he saved his girlfriend, but, isn't her committing suicide kind of like a break up?
Agreed, it isn't the same kind of humor as a crazy woman calling the cops over some chicken McNuggets, BUT, aren't most of your stories about crazy women?

Hey, hey, did you ever make fun of the unemployed woman with fourteen kids and no way to support them? Aka, octomom, clown car, etc.

If you think people that laugh at this are insensitive, then work in a customer service job for at least 2 years... then you will realize when stupid people do incredibly stupid things it's the funniest thing in the world because.....

wait for it......

They Deserved it

I didn't see these till this post, so didn't comment on the other (hey I like your blog but I got scholar to level y'know, busy busy). I think you're dead on in calling him stupid - but also that there is such a thing as heroic stupidity. The kind of stupid you know, even at the time, is stupid, but you're going to do it anyway because it will result in something being saved or some greater good being served. Much like standing in front of a tank or running headlong into a line of armed police forces in protest - its stupid - but its heroic stupid. Sometimes we really do have to set logic and reason and good sense aside and do things that are, at face value, completely retarded, because anything less simply won't result in the desired effect. In this case saving the girlfriend (who will probably just kill herself from guilt shortly anyway, but still)

I like the dark side. I don't want it to go.

Whoever couldn't handle the last post is a whimpy whiner. For fuck's sake, it's a story about a moron, the same as any other story on your blog, only this time it's with real life morons who die.

If you're stupid, and you die, I say it helps out the food chain. Your readers need to man up, Dave.

I agree with the first comment. MOAR DARK SIDE! If anyone expected sensitivity and compassion, they must not have been reading the blog for very long. Joke'm if they can't take a fuck.

With all that ass-kissing, I can get this month's fan pack for free, yes? >_>

I must be hallucinating. I did NOT just see GMDave apologize for making fun of an idiot.

if people were offended about that last post...they better not go read the Darwin Awards.

seriously, the amount of crap i have read at darwin awards and what i have seen on the internet, my sense of humor borders on the psychotic.

so, dark side away Dave. Dark side away.

You do know that today was national awareness day for attempting to ban the use of the word retard right? It was announced on one of the major morning news shows...Why does this bother me? It also happens to be my birthday. /sigh. The day before April fools day...you'd think they'd plan that better. Just thought I'd let ya know.

i dont get why people post here all the time your just telling GM[Dave] what he already knows.

Well, Dave, do what you think is best. I would be, however, remiss, if I didn't say my piece and say that I totally support your unbiased, include-all campaign against stupidity. Even love-induced stupidity, which is a shaky concept, in and of itself.

People are so wrapped up in their die-hard conception of true love that they are easily offended by even the lightest satire directed at it.

I mean, I see the funny side. We would give our lives for one person, but go spit on, insult, war with, or simply don't give two craps about others simply because they don't fill that lonely void within us all.

Maybe, Dave, some people felt you went a little far because this story dealt with retards who died. Thing about idiots, well, they tend to make desicions that ultimately lead to their demise. Like the adage goes... "fools die".

Please, Dave, as a constant fan, I implore you to not begin down the dark road of censorship. It's a slippery slope. Even those who foud that post offensive must know that free speech has it's dark side (much like yours), and they must know that they were bound to be offended by something you write.

For @&%#'s sake, you're GMDave! Your were bound to offend somebody . Offend away, Dave, offend away. Unpopular speach is vital to the health of society.

Personally I think you were right to say sorry... it shows that you actually care about your readers and what they have to say, that is a good thing not a bad thing.

Over here we have this comedian called Ricky Gervais. He's the sort of guy who is always trying to push the limits to make people feel uncomfortable and as such he often ends up offending people. You remind me of him sometimes.

Even Ricky has his limits though.

Regarding the story, it kind of shocked me since my boyfriend is Chinese, he went home to visit China only a few days ago and he lives in the same city as the guy who died.

And no, the guy in the article is not him. I don't make a habit of throwing myself off buildings then coming back from the dead to post things like this.

Wow. GM Dave, the man who deals with whiney complainers daily has finally apologized to one whiney complainer.

I don't know you anymore.... :*(

Dave, you've gone soft. I swear, don't make me hate you. I'll even hunt down and kill all those whiners for you. I'd go to jail for you. Just please, PLEASE go home to Bast Castle.

P/S: Anyone who caught that last line gets an extra point, for what it's worth :D

I was one of the people who criticized the previous post - in a one-line sentence. Note that I never used the word "offended", because frankly I hate it, and it makes no sense especially in this context.

The reason is because I'm of the opinion that comedy always has its limits. Those limits are of course different for everyone, but you want to make your audience laugh, and think, but not to make them cringe or feel awful about laughing in the first place. It's why comedians who, for example, go around making fun of wheelchair-bound victims are not very popular, no matter how funny their shtick is. The subject of the last post didn't deserve it.

The reason I reacted this way is because Dave's comedy has always made me laugh without feeling guilty, up to now. He crossed a line and he realized it. That doesn't mean he's going to stop making fun of idiots, even idiots who kill themselves, or that he'll start becoming more "sensitive", but simply that he knows what content is not useful to him or his audience.

Comedy is not absolute. I think Dave recognizes that, and I salute him for taking a mature point of view in this matter despite the inevitable "sellout" comments that came from it.

At 6:53 AM, Blogger J. Scarper said...

Wait, another thing. Looking back to your earlier posts, Dave, you never used to care what people thought. The biggest mistake you can make is to start trying to please people. You can't please everyone, so trying to please anyone will just screw with everyone's opinion of you.

Come on, Dave. We want [GameMonster] Dave, Jormy's master, not [GoodMan] Dave, the guy who worries he's becoming too evil.

Dark side is supposed to be deep and rejecting for once, and it is your inspiration source,[GM]Dave.

I bet we are all totally cool with some people being soft and living lives emotionally and taking everything too personally (translate: it's not our fucking business)

Some of us lack that. Or we just don't roll that way.

For once, if somebody who just rubbed you the wrong way with their opinion becouse they don't live a damn illusion of the colorfull world, full of daisy fields and pink unicorns, educating them becouse of that is just RETARTED!

I'M one of those people who didn't find the previous post funny, mostly exactly because of what Cidolfas said, I wasn't offended by the post but it didn't feel good to laugh at that guy, it was a kind of guilty laugh. It might sound strange coming from a guy who read all of Dave's post in 5 days laughing at the retards in the posts.
But those people were doing/saying idiotic things because thats what they are like.
But this guy choose to act right away when he saw her girlfriend falling, sure it wasn't the most logical thing to do BUT it was the thing that he felt he needs to be do.....to save her girlfriends life. Hell, call me an idiot but I specially don't need a reason to save someone, and if thats being an idiot then so be it.

I wasn't trying to complain or say I was offended. I just was curious about whether Dave would've done it or not. By learning more about Dave we can swiftly assimilate when he achieves world domination mwahahaha.
